Books Read in 2009

As I browse through other book blogs, I am amazed at how many books some bloggers read in a year. I am finishing 2009 having read a mere 18 books, but it's quality over quantity, right? I don't know what my exact goal for 2010 is yet, but it's definitely more than 18. Now that I have completed my master's work, which involved a lot of boring text book and article reading, this should be a much easier task. Here is my 2009 list:

1. Marley and Me by John Grogan
2. American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld
3. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
4. Still Alice by Lisa Genova
5. In The Woods by Tana French
6. Under The Banner of Heaven by Joh Krakauer
7. The Likeness by Tana French
8. The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb
9. We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver
10. The King of Torts by John Grisham
11. Exile by Richard North Patterson (audio)
12. Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout
13. The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff
14. 4th of July by James Patterson
15. The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery
16. The Truth About Forever by Sara Dessen
17. Eclipse by Richard North Patterson (audio)
18. Testimony by Anita Shreve

There were some really great books in this bunch, but my top three would be Olive Kitteridge, The Hour I First Believed, and We Need To Talk About Kevin.

I hope to write a brief review of these three books soon!

  1. It's definitely all about the quality! I really want to read Olive Kitteridge, and I've had my eye on the Tana French mysteries too.

  2. I would love to hear about We Need to Talk About Kevin because it is somewhere on the bottom of Mount TBR!

  3. It IS about quality...and you've got some quality books on that list. I loved Olive Kitteridge, too.

  4. Thanks for stopping by my blog, and making sure to leave your address :) When the first two links didn't work I was bummed, but the third one was fine (I just fished it out of spam this morning).

I love UW, I'm going to be so sad to leave Madison this summer after I graduate! Go Badgers :)

I thought Under the Banner of Heaven was an awesome book, even if it was hard to read in parts. There are lots of great books on your list -- I hope you get to read even more in 2010.

  5. Hi, Julie from another Julie,

I found you on Cornflower's Book Blog. I was delighted to see that you like "Olive Kitteridge". I have wondered if I should read it. Now I will for sure.

Yesterday I bought "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" and have read about 100 pages. I am enjoying it very much. Of the books you've read this year, I've read "The Handmaid's Tale", "Marley and Me" and "Testimony". I really like Wally Lamb so had his book on my list, and will add Krakauer's book as I enjoyed "Into Thin Air" and "Into The Wild."

Did you like "We Have To Talk About Kevin"?

If you click on my name you will get my regular blog, Celtic Lady. I also have a book blog, "Julie's Bookshelf" (on my sidebar) but sadly neglect it. Right now I have 11 books that I haven't reviewed.

I will put your blog on my sidebar and good luck with keeping it going!

    Julie Fredericksen

  6. I just came across your blog today and it seems that a lot of your favorite books for 2009 have been ones that I have enjoyed as well. I loved Still Alice,Wally Lamb and Olive Kitteridge.

Have a happy and healthy New Year and Happy Reading in 2010.

  7. Definitely quality over quantity! Olive Kitteridge and The Hour I First Believed were on my 'best of' list, too. Just found your blog, and it looks like we may have similar reading tastes.
